Well Child Visits

When your child is sick, you bring them to your primary care provider.

Did you know that when your child is healthy, you should also bring them to your provider for well child checkups?

The Bright Futures/American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has developed a schedule of comprehensive guidelines for well child care known as the “periodicity schedule” which recommends screenings and assessments for each well child visit.  This protocol is also recommended and paid by SoonerCare.

Health Watch Medical Clinic adheres to these guidelines and recommends that your child visit the clinic every three months up to the age of 18 months.  This is important because most of the vaccines your child will need are administered during their early years. Also, Health Watch can make you aware of important developmental and growth milestones including lab work for screening iron levels (important for preventing anemia) and for hearing and visions tests.

After age three, Health Watch recommends that you schedule an annual well child exam up to 18 years of age. This is important when practicing preventive medicine. Also, you will be compliant with school and athletic requirements for annual physicals. It is very important that your child forms a lasting and trusting relationship with his primary care provider.  This will ensure that your child is taking an active role in managing their own health in the future.
